Winter Try-Me Try-Athlon Cancelled
February 7, 2017 - Parkland School Division regrets to announce that the 2017 Winter TryAthlon has been cancelled due to uncooperative weather. Conditions at the event site are icy and there is not enough snow cover for safe cross-country skiing and snow-shoeing activities.
The organizing committee would like to thank all the teachers for their work in promoting this first-time event. All the groundwork has been laid for a successful launch to this wellness activity early in 2018.
The Winter Try-Me Try-Athlon is an original event organized by the PSD Wellness Initiative and developed in coordination with PSD physical education staff. In place of the swimming-biking-running course used in traditional triathlons, the Winter Try-Athlon will instead feature a three-part course composed of skating, snowshoeing/orienteering and cross-country skiing challenges.
This event will be a district-wide celebration of physical literacy and movement and will be open to all PSD students in Grades 1-6 with the support of their classroom or school-based teacher (up to a maximum of 150 participants).
For those parents that have already registered and processed a payment for the Winter TryAthlon registration, a credit of $30 will be applied to your account in Parkland School Division’s online payment system Acorn. For those parents or guardians who would rather receive a reimbursement, please contact or visit Parkland School Division’s Centre for Education.
